AI in ELT & Authentic Materials
In this phase, I want to share my achievements obtained through module 2 in Artificial Intelligence. I feel very happy to learn new valuable resources using AI because I can improve the quality of the information I seek not only for my studies but also for my daily life. Furthermore, I enjoy revealing to you how wonderful it is to use technology wisely and the benefits it has brought me. Each material I created was a remarkable experience because the teacher from the specialization course told my class about new applications where we can design fabulous materials as complements for the classes or homework assignments; besides that, he allowed us to get new certifications on the magic school to handle it better. I'm thankful for each step I take from artificial intelligence to English language teaching.
During module 2, teacher Isaac explained to my course different applications with AI to create wonderful types of material as complements for a lesson.
Let me tell you that I started exploring "Gamma" to create a presentation on regular and irregular verbs. I was very excited to create a presentation with AI because it saves me time, and I only need to supervise that the content is applicable and fits what I want to teach. Astonishingly, Gamma gave me a beautiful and accurate presentation with useful content. I think it is a terrific teaching resource for generating innovative classes.

Another excellent app I learned to use in this module was "Diffit". It is a very good technological tool that helped me create a document connected to the topics of future "Will and "Going to". I am still surprised by the type of material it can provide me in seconds. It helped me a lot to focus my material for young students at a school because the material is clear and concise.

On the other hand, I would like to tell you that I learned to use another nice tool called "You.Com"; I loved it because it is an AI that generates personalized material. I wrote to it through a simple prompt about a short reading on the "simple past tense" with exercises; as an effect, It gave me a reading about a brief vacation. So, my learning about apps or websites with AI has been meaningful because I have more alternatives on how to generate material and adapt it to classes or tasks that I may have over time.
Continuing the learning path, I learned how to use another AI to make engaging comics. I was very surprised because I had never tried to create one. I used the AI called "Hugging face comic factory" and created a sample of a Kpop group and the results were interesting. I consider that making comics on a topic would be a good alternative to awaken the imagination of students in a classroom because it can be used as a complement to educational activities.

Now, let me tell you about one of my favorite AIs from module 2; "Suno ai song generator". It is an AI that allows you to produce songs on daily or educational topics. I loved it because I was able to create a happy birthday song for my best friend.
However, Suno AI has changed a lot over the months since it now only permits you to create a song once a day and does not allow unrestricted downloads because it was made a premium app. Even so, Suno AI song generator is a pleasing teaching resource to create musical themes about English language teaching, for example, I recently created a rap-style song that will talk about "nouns" and the lyrics were a very curious song.
Certifications & Courses
In module 2, the teacher in charge of the specialization course assigned my class to do a new certification on the "Generative AI for Educators".
The course was educational because I learned a little about the concepts of "supervised learning", "unsupervised learning" and "reinforcement learning" as well as the different AI tools that adapt and enhance their information based on their data.

Receptive & Productive Skills
- AI-Assisted Reading and Listening
Dear friend, I'd like to share with you an incredible tool that has been particularly helpful for me. My teacher taught it in class, and it's fantastic because it's an AI for reading called "Read Along AI." I recently recommended it to a family member, and he loved it because he reads aloud and helps learn new vocabulary from each reading. I believe that it is a great complement for students to strengthen their reading habits.

Likewise, I'd like to mention another fantastic resource called "Read Theory" that helps students enrich their reading comprehension skills. Teachers can create their classrooms for students to engage in various reading activities, including short quizzes and multiple-choice questions. Undoubtedly, Module 2 has enabled me to learn a great deal about the diverse educational fields where artificial intelligence is making its presence.
For the listening skills, the teacher presented many AI-powered apps, such as Brisk AI, TTS MP3.com, HeyGen, and Murf AI. Nevertheless, I want to focus on one that particularly caught my attention: "ChatterPix Kids." It's an AI-powered app that allows me to add a voice to a photo and simulate it as if the person or animal in the picture could be speaking. I found it amazing that I could use this tool to give students short instructions in a class or have them submit assignments using the app.
I already created a small video so you can see that I learned to use the app in a good way. I'm happy to see how much I have learned from module 2!
- AI-Assisted Writing and Speaking
At this stage, I already feel more confident about how to politely interact with an AI and how I could continue examining other pages or apps to enhance academic and everyday aspects because I learned to improve the structure of a Prompt to provide me an organized lesson plan with satisfactory information and activities to develop a class.
I have also learned to use more satisfactory AI tools like Copilot and ChatGPT to enhance the quality of prompt writing, as well as the Grammarly app to rectify compositional and grammatical errors. In this way, it allows me to structure different types of texts more effectively.
Equally important are productive skills aimed at the speaking area because they improve students' fluency.
In this case, I included two main applications to my blog; "TalkPal AI" and "Elsa Speak". Both applications are innovative because they permit you to practice and improve the structuring of ideas, enrich your vocabulary bank, and speak without fear of making mistakes.
In "TalkPal AI" it allows you to determine the level of English you have, the main reason why you want to learn English, and how often you want to practice. Besides, you provide an appropriate prompt on what topic you want to talk about and the app gives you feedback according to what develops in the conversation. From my point of view, it is an essential application for an English language teacher to recommend to her students.

The next application is "Elsa Speak" I think it is an excellent option since the app provides tasks before performing each roleplay. It is a suitable app to implement in the academic environment.
- Creating Bots as Learning Assistants
Finally, I have got my favorite part of module 2! The creation of bots as virtual assistants applied to teaching in the English language.
I remember being very curious about how to create a bot because I had never had the opportunity to explore that area of technology. At the same time, I realized that creating a bot involves easy-to-understand but somewhat complex steps to upload good-quality material.
That is why the teacher from the specialization course uploaded video tutorials on how to create a bot appropriately and instructed us on two fabulous AI; "Cody and Poe." So, I had the opportunity to create a bot in Poe AI as a project focused on "English Didactics I" with two other friends and it was a triumph because the bot could be created and at the same time; the bot will be very helpful from now on for didactics English' students.
To recap, I am proud to see how much my learning has been able to advance during this module.

Hello, Karla! I really liked seeing all the material you created using AI, it's impressive. You.com caught my attention, to be honest, I have never used it but I will definitely do so. During module 2, we learned about many tools and they are very helpful and the best thing is to put what you have learned into practice as you are doing it.
ReplyDeleteWithout a doubt, since I found out about the existence of gamma, my teaching materials are now more creative, your blog is very interesting and I like the way you express your knowledge through what you write.
